Density Cups (Pycnometer)
Determine the density (weight per volume) of paints and liquids for QC — composition errors show up as different density readings.
Overview
A density cup (a liquid pycnometer) is a simple, reliable tool for paint quality control: any error in composition shows up as a different density reading. BYK-Gardner cups use a cylindrical shape with a large opening for easy filling and cleaning; the tightly-fitted stainless-steel cover slopes up to a small central hole that expels excess sample without trapping air bubbles, increasing accuracy. Four types are available — US (83.2 ml), Mini (8.32 ml, direct lbs/gal conversion), British Imperial 100 ml and ISO 100/50 ml — to suit any standard or lab. All BYK‑Gardner instruments supplied by K&K carry a 12-month manufacturer warranty.
